Replacing a Music Box in a Stuffed Animal If possible you should determine the approximate size of the current music box and if the wind up key can be removed from the music box. If the winder key can be removed then you will unscrew the winder key and carefully open up the seam of the stuffed animal using a seam ripper or small scissors. Be sure to work carefully to avoid damaging the fabric. Once the seam is open you may find that the music box is encased in another piece of fabric. This serves to hold the music box into place and prevent fibers from getting tangled in the winder. You will need to open the fabric sack up at the seam also to remove the
If the wind up key does not unscrew from the box you may need to enlarge the key hole to be able to pull the key and stem out. If the key hole is seamed then you will need to carefully open it at the seam. If it is not seamed you will need to cut a slit into the fabric in such a way that you can stitch the cut closed once you have inserted the new mechanism.
Once you have removed the old music box you will replace it with your new one, insert the key into the hole and screw into the music box. You will want to stitch the inner sack back together first, making sure not to get any stuffing into the sack. Once closed, at this point you can add more stuffing to your beloved friend, if needed. Next, you will need to restitch the outer seam and key hole if you had to enlarge it.
